Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Appendicitis

The appendix is a pouch-like structure attached at the start of the large intestine that has no known purpose. Appendicitis begins with fever and pain near the belly button and then moves toward the lower-right side of the abdomen. This is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fever and chills.

Description

The most telltale symptom of appendicitis is a sudden, sharp pain that starts on the right side of your lower abdomen. It may also start near your belly button and then move lower to your right. The pain may feel like a cramp at first, and it may get worse when you cough, sneeze, or move.

Reviews

Once the appendicitis symptoms appear, it can take as little as 24 to 72 hours for the infected appendix to rupture. If the appendix ruptures, the infection can spread to other areas of the abdomen, increasing the risk of serious complications and making treatment more difficult.
